HDFS Researcher Honored with Early Career Award

Nicole Perry, an assistant professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin, has been named the winner of the 2022 Victoria S. Levin Award. 

The Victoria S. Levin Award for Early Career Success in Young Children's Mental Health Research was established to further scientific research in addressing young children's mental health and includes a monetary award of up to $25,000.

Perry's research examines how environmental factors and the relationship between child and caregiver impact the early development mechanisms that underlie the regulation of cognition and emotion in young children. She also examines how these early self-regulatory processes shape children's mental health trajectories and resilience to stress. Her techniques assess autonomic nervous system functioning, neural connectivity and hormonal responses, in addition to employing behavioral observation techniques to investigate questions about how young children develop.

Perry previously earned the International Congress of Infant Studies Early Career Award in 2017.
